Emily Godwin


Emily R. Godwin practices in the areas of professional negligence, construction and design law, and commercial litigation.

Emily is a 2018 graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law. During law school, she clerked for the United States Department of Justice, working as an editor for the publications team and assisting with publication of the United States Attorneys’ Bulletin (now the Department of Justice Journal of Federal Law and Practice). She also clerked for the firm of Baker, Ravenel, and Bender, LLP, where she focused her work on insurance defense and general litigation practice. Finally, she worked as a research assistant to Jaclyn Cherry, Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs, concentrating much of her research and writing on developments in nonprofit law.

Emily also engaged in several academic pursuits during law school. She acted as Senior Articles Editor for the Journal of Law and Education and was honored to complete an externship with the Honorable James O. Spence, Master-in-Equity for Lexington County, South Carolina. She received six CALI awards, which honor the student with the highest grade in a course. She was also inducted into the Order of the Coif and the Order of the Wig and Robe, graduating in the top 10% of her class.
