Another new year is here, and if you are like me, you try to make it a better year than the last. I have been lucky enough to interact with architects and engineers every day for many years now. While I love helping design professionals, I want to help avoid the stress and expense of disputes. I have ten ideas for 2018 resolutions that you might consider to make your 2018 a better year.
#1 I won’t start work until I have a signed contract. Ever.
#2 I will make sure that I don’t work with clients who might not be a good fit.
#3 I will adopt a new quality control procedure to make sure work product is properly reviewed.
#4 I will improve the training and supervision of younger architects/engineers that work with me.
#5 I will clearly define my scope of services on every project.
#6 I will not provide services outside of my scope of expertise.
#7 I will review every email/text before I send it to make sure it’s professional and not offering opinions outside of my expertise.
#8 I will adopt a social media and communications policy.
#9 I will stop working for clients that do not pay me on time.
#10 I will work on projects and with people that I enjoy.
Let me know of other resolutions you think would benefit your fellow design professionals. I hope you have a happy and prosperous 2018!
